Privacy policy

TLCp is run by Time-Line Continuum. A timeline you make here is a record of your own life, or your family’s, and we treat it that way. This page says plainly what we hold, what we do with it, and who else can see any part of it.

Your timelines are private

Everything you put in a timeline belongs to you and is visible only to you when you are signed in. There is no public directory of timelines, no way to browse someone else’s, and nothing you write is published anywhere by default.

The one exception is a share link, and you have to create it deliberately. When you do, you get a long secret web address that opens that timeline. You can put a password on it, set it to expire, make it read only, or share only some of the events. You can switch it off again at any time.

Anyone holding that link can open it, so treat it like a key. If you set a password, the link alone is not enough.

What we collect

• Your account details. Your name and email address, and a password which is stored scrambled so that nobody here can read it.
• What you put in your timelines. Titles, descriptions, dates and any images you upload. Images are held in private storage, not on the open web.
• Anything you write in the contact form. See below, because that one works differently from what people usually expect.
• Visitor statistics. Which pages are visited and roughly where in the world from. This uses Vercel Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not follow you around other websites.

If you were a customer before this version of TLCp, your account and your timelines were brought across from the previous system, so some of what you see here was entered long before today.

The picture tools, and where your photographs go

TLCp can look at a photograph and suggest a caption, a date and a draft timeline. That is genuinely useful, and it means your photograph leaves our systems, so we would rather you heard it here.

• When you use those tools, the photograph itself is sent to Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI service, which writes the suggestion and sends it back.
• We also read the information cameras record inside a picture file, which is usually the date it was taken and sometimes the place.
• If you choose to include the location, those map coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap to turn them into a place name. If you do not tick that, they are not sent anywhere.

None of this happens to a photograph you simply add to an event. It happens only when you ask for a suggestion.

The contact form

When you write to us through the contact page, your name, email address and message are saved in our database so we can read and answer them, and a copy is emailed to our own enquiries mailbox so that a message is not missed. The email goes to us and to nobody else, and your address is used as the reply address so that answering you is simply a reply. What is saved stays until we remove it.

If something goes wrong while saving or sending a message, our error record can include the email address you gave, so that we can find the message you sent and reply to it properly.

The form also has two quiet protections against automated abuse. One is a field that is hidden from you and only a machine would fill in. The other briefly notes the network address a message came from, so that the same sender cannot flood us in a few seconds. That note is held in memory for a minute and is never written down.

Cookies

We use two, and neither is for advertising. One keeps you signed in. The other remembers that you have entered the password for a share link, so you are not asked again on every page.

Who else is involved

Running a website means relying on a few services. The ones that can see anything at all are:

• Vercel, which hosts the site and provides the visitor statistics described above.
• Supabase, which stores your timelines and images.
• Anthropic, which receives a photograph when you ask for a suggestion about it.
• OpenStreetMap, which receives map coordinates when you choose to include a location.
• Resend, which delivers sign-in and password-reset emails.

Each has its own privacy policy. Our hosting providers also keep ordinary technical records of requests to the site, including internet addresses, as any web host does.

Keeping and deleting

We keep what you have entered for as long as you have an account, because that is the point of it. We do not sell it, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the services listed above.

You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and everything in it. Write to info@time-linecontinuum.com and we will do it.

We can technically reach your timelines because we run the service, and we may do so to fix a fault or restore a backup. We do not read them otherwise.

Changes to this page

If what we do changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top will tell you when. We will not quietly start doing something this page says we do not do.
